Cultural Cruise (高雄港文化遊艇)

We cordially invite you to a special social event following the TJCAS 2025: a relaxing and scenic Kaohsiung Cultural Cruise. This excursion offers a unique opportunity to unwind and experience the beauty of Kaohsiung from a spectacular vantage point—the water. Our journey will begin at KW2 (Kaohsiung Port Warehouse No. 2), a historic site with a special connection to Japan, as it was originally built in 1914 as a warehouse for exporting sugar. Today, it has been beautifully revitalized into a vibrant cultural and dining hub. As we set sail from this historic pier, you will feel the gentle sea breeze and witness the stunning panoramic views of Kaohsiung's modern skyline merging with its bustling international port. The cruise will take us past historic landmarks such as the Banana Pier, the British Consulate at Takow, and the Cihou Lighthouse watching over the city from the hillside. We will then glide across the main channel to witness the stunning modern architecture of Asia's New Bay Area. This includes the impressive Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, the iconic Kaohsiung Music Center, and the new Cruise Terminal. This scenic voyage across the harbor is more than just a boat ride; it is a journey through time, offering a tranquil escape from the city and leading us toward one of Taiwan's most significant historical treasures. It’s the perfect way to see the city’s transformation and appreciate its deep maritime heritage in a comfortable and memorable setting.

San Jin Wu: An Artisan Silk-Screening Experience (山津塢 網印職人手作體驗)

An immersive artisan workshop at "San Jin Wu," located in Kaohsiung's vibrant Pier-2 Art Center. Here, we will explore the beautiful craft of Tairyo-bata (大漁旗), or "Great Catch Flags." What makes this experience especially meaningful is its deep connection to Japan. This tradition of creating vibrant flags to celebrate a bountiful harvest and ensure a safe return was introduced to Taiwan from Japan during the early 20th century. Over the decades, as this craft faced decline, the passionate founders of San Jin Wu embarked on a remarkable journey to revive it. Their dedication even led them to Kagoshima, where they learned the authentic paste-resist dyeing techniques from a fifth-generation Japanese master craftsman. This workshop is more than just an activity; it's a chance to personally engage with a beautiful, shared cultural heritage that has been lovingly preserved and revitalized right here in the port city of Kaohsiung.

At the San Jin Wu workshop, you will have the chance to become an artisan for the day. Using the enjoyable and accessible technique of silk-screen printing, you will create your very own Tairyo-bata-inspired artwork to take home. The most fascinating part is discovering the unique evolution of the designs. While honoring their Japanese origins, the patterns have been infused with a distinct Taiwanese spirit. You will see traditional symbols are blended with local fish and beloved Taiwanese deities. The studio’s philosophy is that "everyone needs a Tairyo-bata for their life," transforming these flags from a fisherman's blessing into a universal symbol of good fortune and success. You won't just be making a souvenir; you'll be crafting a personal talisman that tells a powerful story of cultural friendship and adaptation between Japan and Taiwan. We warmly invite you to join us and create your own flag of fortune.
